10 myths about Earth which you certainly believe

We are sure that you did not know this...

There are many facts about our planet that are not true, and in which we all believe and think they are true. These words are many, but we decided to present you the top 10.

  
1. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world

In fact, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world, which is over 10,000 meters high when you take into account the base of which lies on the ocean floor.

2. Great Wall can be seen from space

This is also incorrect, because the Chinese wall is too thin to be visible from space. It is only 6 meters wide. 

3. Sahara is the largest desert in the world

The polar desert in Antarctica is actually the largest desert in the world. It occupies a vast area of 14 million square kilometers. 

4. Big Ben is the name of the great tower in London

Big Ben is actually the name of the biggest bell located in the Elizabeth Tower. 


5. Clouds don't have weight

Clouds are made of many particles of water, but can sometimes weight up to 500 tons. 

6. Lightning never strikes twice in the same place
This also is not true. In one year, lightning struck 25 times in the top of the Empire State Building in New York.

7. Water conducts electricity

The only reason that water conducts electricity is because in itself has minerals and other substances that are good conductors. 

8. It is impossible to break the diamond
One hammer stroke is enough to cut it in half.

9. All the trees receives water through the roots

10. UK is wettest country in Europe
This also is not true, in London annual rainfall around 500 mm, while in Rome falls about 650 mm, while in Milan 1000 mm of rain.

  4. Everest is in fact the highest mountain. The other, may be taller from the base, however the peak of Everest is still much higher.
