Checking out attractive alternatives does not necessarily mean you’re going to cheat

Just because your partner admires the other person's attraction does not mean that they will cheat you, suggests a new study published in Journal of Family Psychology. The findings show that paying more attention to attractive alternatives only increases the risk of infidelity among people who lack the ability to self-regulate.

“We became interested in this topic because we think it is applicable to many people,” said study authors Ashlyn Brady and Levi R. Baker of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

“Over the course of a romantic relationship, people will likely experience feelings of attraction to others who are not their romantic partner, or perhaps even pursue the temptation of infidelity. As we know, engaging in infidelity can be very detrimental for romantic relationships; thus, the current results help us to further understand how people can protect their relationship from the threat of infidelity.”

In the experiment, 177 college students reported in monogamous romantic relationships how much attention they paid to attractive people. They are then randomly assigned to complete tasks that either did or did not impair their self-regulation skills. Subsequently, participants were asked to rate the dating app via mobile and were offered a free premium version of the app.

Researchers found that attending to attractive alternatives was associated with a greater likelihood of accepting the free premium version of the dating app - but only among participants performing tasks that impaired their self-control.

The researchers then conducted a longitudinal study in which 101 newly married couples completed self-assessment assessments and pursued attractive alternatives. Six times over the next two years, participants reported whether they engaged in various sexual behaviors - such as kissing, sharing nude photos, and having sexual relations - with someone other than their spouse.

Fifteen men and 18 women admitted engaging in at least one act of disbelief, and researchers found that these participants were more alert to attractive alternatives without self-control.

“When in a romantic relationship, it’s important to remember that you or your partner may notice attractive people from time to time; however, this tendency to notice attractive people does not necessarily suggest that you or your partner are more likely to engage in infidelity,” Brady and Baker told PsyPost.

“Yet it is important to recognize when the threat of infidelity may become stronger. Our results suggest that lacking self-control — that is, lacking the ability to resist satisfying impulses that may be harmful to long-term goals — is one factor that predicts a greater risk of infidelity among people who have a tendency to notice attractive others.”

“Thus, if you or your partner are generally good at resisting all kinds of temptation, then checking out an attractive person every now and then shouldn’t cause concern; but if you or your partner struggle to resist impulsive temptations, then looking at attractive people may increase the threat of infidelity,” the researchers explained.

“Of course, even people who have strong self-control may struggle on occasion. For instance, being intoxicated, excessively tired, or even stressed can enhance the likelihood of indulging in temptation. So if you or your partner tend to notice attractive people and are concerned about infidelity, try to avoid situations that impair self-control when attractive others are present and temptation is ripe (e.g., drinking at a bar with an attractive coworker after a stressful day at work).”

All studies include some limitations, and the current research is no exception.

“Although our samples varied in relationship type across the two studies (i.e., dating vs. newlywed couples), neither study captured couples who were involved in very long-term romantic relationships. Future research should consider the role of relationship length in the context of the current predictions,” Brady and Baker said.

“Future research may also consider how accurate people are in perceiving their own self-control. We suggest that noticing attractive people may not be detrimental to relationships as long as people are capable of maintaining their self-control; however, whether people are accurate at perceiving, and capable of maintaining, their self-control is also an important question to consider.”

2020 Volkswagen Golf 8 - - VW goes all in on the latest Golf

Golf has been with us since 1974 and has sold over 35 million units over seven generations, and is currently offered in more than 100 countries. Given the importance of Golf for the entire VW Group, it is not surprising that the company has invested as much as € 1.8 billion in the development of the new Golf 8.

The Wolfsburg plant in Germany will remain the most important for Golf production, as more than 2,000 copies of this model are produced there daily.

The Golf 8 is based on VW's MQB platform, with a vehicle length of 4284 mm (4255 mm in the "VII"), width of 1789 mm, height of 1456 mm, and wheelbase of 2636 mm. Here also is the fact that the coefficient of air resistance is 0.275.

According to German sources, the car will be more practical, economical and spacious, with more upmarket interiors and higher quality materials.

There is also a new infotainment system with a touch screen, head-up display, gesture control technology and a digital instrument panel, and it should be noted that the number of buttons inside has been drastically reduced.

In terms of the appearance of the exterior, there is no need to spend too many words here, because no drastic differences could be expected from the established company design vocabulary. Volkswagen plays it safe and there simply cannot be any experiments.

It should be mentioned here that there will no longer be a three-door version in the range, while the Caravan Golf 8 Variant will appear at the end of 2020 (and with about 50mm longer wheelbase compared to the current model).

As for the engine, we have a 1.0 liter TSI three-cylinder with 90hp and 110hp in gasoline, then a 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder with 130hp and 150hp, and later comes a 1.5 liter TGI Evo is a natural gas-powered version.

The diesel engine offers a 2.0 liter four-cylinder TDI in 115hp and 150hp versions.

The all-electric version of the Golf will be gone as new Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback takes its place.

On the other hand, the hybrid offer will include Mild Hybrid versions of eTSI petrol engines with 110hp, 130hp and 150hp (with 48 volt electrical system), as well as the Plug-in Hybrid variant eHybrid, which comes with 1.5 liter petrol and an electric motor with a total of 150kW / 204hp as well as 13 kWh batteries). The stronger 245hp Plug-in Hybrid variant has already been confirmed, arriving a little later.

Offered from 2020 will be the Sport Golf GTI with 2.0 liter turbo petrol and 235hp, followed by the Golf GTI Cup with 290hp, as well as the Golf R which will have about 330hp. The Golf R will not have the so-called Drift mode or all-wheel steering as announced by the factory.

As for the Golf GTI, the package will also include larger alloy wheels, an aero package (front spoiler, sills, rear diffuser, rear roof spoiler ...), front honeycomb hood with red trim and GTI logo, leather steering wheel with flattened lower partly with red seams, as well as sport pedals and seats with a distinctive checkered pattern.

The sale of the Golf 8 will start in Germany in December, priced at around € 18,500 for the base model.

Elementary Schools Are Cancelling Halloween Celebrations Because It’s Not Inclusive

Some schools in the northern suburbs of Chicago have decided to "move away" from Halloween celebrations as part of an effort to get more involved.

Evanston / Skokie School District 65 wrote in a message to parents:

“While we recognize that Halloween is a fun tradition for many, it is not a holiday that is celebrated by everyone for various reasons and we want to honor that,” the message reads. “We are also aware of the range of inequities that are embedded in Halloween celebrations that take place as part of the school day and the unintended negative impact that it can have on students, families, and staff. As a result, we support our schools that are moving away from Halloween celebrations that include costumes and similar traditions.”

“We are confident those who are choosing to move away from the traditional Halloween celebrations will find new and engaging ways to build community within their schools,” the statement read.

Lincoln Elementary School is one of the schools that has decided to end school traditions throughout the school day. No party will be held Oct. 31 in Lincoln during the school day. Also, students do not wear costumes or receive sweets. Instead of a Halloween party, students will have a "fall celebration" on November 1st.

This move upset many parents.

Nejra Bajrić, whose son attends Lincoln, told the Tribune that her second
grader is devastated.

“There were some tears,” Bajric said. “Every time I bring it up, he says, ‘That’s the worst; I’m just going to wear mine.’”

“They’re trying so hard to make everything inclusive that they’re excluding a lot of students,” she added. “They’re excluding those kids from having a Halloween, or low-income kids whose families work crazy hours.”

A 4th-Grader Refused to Answer a Math Problem Because It Was Offensive

4-th grade girl Rhythm Pacheco refused to answer a math question because it was offensive. Specifically, in a math test, she encountered a task that she refused to offer a solution because she found the question offensive.

A nine-year-old from Salt Lake City was tasked with answering the question "how much Isabel is heavier than the lightest student".

In addition to this question, the test contained a table listing the names of three imaginary female students and their weight.

Dissatisfied Rhythm, instead of offering a solution, she wrote, “
What!!!! This is offensive. Sorry I won’t right [write] this it’s rood [rude]."
She explained to Fox13 why she reacted that way.

"I didn’t like that because girls shouldn’t be comparing each other. I know it was a math problem … but I don’t think that was really OK. I didn't think this would be in the homework, I thought they would put fruits, vegetables or something like that for comparison, "said the nine-year-old.

She also let her teacher know that she thought it was wrong to judge people for their weight.

"I was left in shock, too. I think it's irresponsible to teach kids math this way, "says mother Naomi Pacheco.

They justified themselves from the school by explaining that "the task is not about weight and that it is just a comparison to test students' knowledge of grams and pounds". They have no intention of withdrawing the question from the test.

Beauties Of 2019 Octoberfest, The World’s Most Iconic Beer Festival

Think Oktoberfest, and the first thing that comes to mind is beer and thousands of incredibly beautiful German girls dressed in traditional Dirndl (guys get Lederhosen). Combine that with delicious Bavarian food and you will get best festival on earth.

The huge glasses of beer at Oktoberfest are not just served across the counter - they brought to your table the hottest girls ever dressed in Dirndl, a traditional Bavarian dress that has become so popular today among young women attending the festival.

Carrying up to 10 glasses of beer at a time, these hot Oktoberfest girls are a sight for thirsty travelers.

Of course, not only the beer is impressed at Oktoberfest, with thousands of women attending the festival
dressed in the Dirndl, often in much shorter versions than those originally found in the Alps.

And true to Bavarian hospitality, they are incredibly kind and you will find them smiling,
laughing, kissing (yes, it’s true), raising their glasses and singing all day long. Absolute bliss.

Placing of the knot on Dirndl also showed women's marital status. A knot tied on the girl's left side means she is single, and a knot tied on the right means she is married,  engaged or otherwise taken, and a knot tied on the back means that the woman is a widow.
