Tallest nations in the world

The tallest male population in the world has the Netherlands and women Latvia according to a survey of London's Imperial College.

The average Dutchman is high 183 and Latvian women 170 centimeters, according to a study published in the journal eLife.

The researchers analyzed data from 200 countries, gathered in the past 100 years.

The head of the research team Prof Majid Ezzati said that the average height of the population is an important indicator regarding food, health care, environmental quality, genes. 

The result is a based on more than 1,400 studies, conducted from 1914 to 2014 and related to around 18.6 million eighteenth year olds.   

According to research presented at a scientific conference in Manchester, compared with 1914, women in South Korea rose, on average, for more than 20 centimeters and men in Iran for 16 centimeters.

The lowest men in the world live in East Timor, and the lowest women in Guatemala.

Although the list is dominated by Europeans, the data indicate that the growth trend in height in the West in general is decreasing, and in East Asia is growing.

As for the bottom of the list, in Guatemala are women, on average, 149 centimeters tall, slightly taller are women from Philippines, Bangladesh, Nepal, East Timor, Madagascar, Laos, Marshall Islands, India and Indonesia. 

The shortest male population, high on average 160 centimeters, has East Timor, slightly taller are Yemen, Laos, Madagascar, Malawi, Nepal, Rwanda, the Marshall Islands, the Philippines and Mauritania, according to a survey.

  1. Indeed. I'm Dutch. With my 183 cm height, I'm considered a midget in my country. My parents gave me the wrong food. Not enough steak béarnaise.
